  1. I think that this flame is very interesting, i think that the purpose of the instalation is to be accesbible for everyone, the physical elements used in this piece of "art" is a projector that creates an ilussion, making the flame looks big and real, we can define this art because is completeley original and this cannot be seen everywere, this is so different from what we are used to see and define "Art" because this is just a completley new thing for everyone. I think it has a cultural motive, to make people think and feel that they can touch fire or create themselfs an ilussion with a proyector, and the social motive, i think it's the same from the cultural one.

  2. First of all I want to say that I´m impress with the flame that the projector creates. I think that the purpose of the installation is to make memory for the ones that die in the wars to remember does soldiers that die in battle alse to prove he said that thos pieces that are made maybe of plastic someone leave it there in memory of a soldier. Then the physical elements that I watch in this video were the projector an the another one it could be the flame but I´m not too sure about this one because is just an illusion made by the projector. I think that we can define this like art because is something that was made by the humans and also make me feel peace just by watching the video. How I said this is a different type of art it is not the same style as we were accostumed to see, because this art is made in computer, so the the one that made it use technology to design it an make that look it real. A social motive that I find when I was looking the video was to remember the soldiers that die; and the cultural motive it might be that now the people can make different kinds of illusions like this one with the fire that it looks so real but if you try to touch it, now you won´t burn because it is just an illusion and it doesn´t have the reactions like if it was real.

  3. I think that the purpose of the installation is to remember the history or the moment. The pysical element is the illusion art. I define this art like very original and is made for humans.I think that is very different because this type of art is less particular. The culture motive is that the projector do like a 3-D, like you think that you touch it. The social motive is that you can remember or record the histoy.

I think that is very interesting the proyect with the projector because you can make a different kind of illusion. I think that the projector do like a 3-D, because you think that you touch but is false.

  4. In my opinion, the Veteran´s Flame is art as we haven’t seen it. The purpose of this art-installation is in memorial of those who fought in the Vietnam War and to remind them with all the sensations caused by the flame. The installation is in a building, downstairs, and it only uses a projector to make the illusion of the flame. I can imagine me being there, in that building, feeling the warm of the flame and hearing the voices of the soldiers, which is why I consider this installation as art, because I will really feel what those veterans passed through.

I think this is different art because we are accustomed to see art in paintings, buildings, sculptures, etc. and analyze them to feel emotions. But in this case the art is live, and you don´t analyze what the installation means, you just feel in that moment.

Also I think that the author of this art-installation didn´t mean to make it an art, I think his purpose was just social and cultural. Maybe he just wanted to have something to remember the soldiers and their big battles, and to not forget the National History.

  5. When the video started, I thought that it was a real big flame. I discovered the truth when the projector appeared.
I think the purpose of the instalation is to give the people a place qhere they can pray for ther family members that maybe died or suffer because of the war.
The physical elements used in this work are the projector of course, and the entire room because it is like the frame.
We can define this as art because it was made with a expecific purpose of the artist, but also it causes you feelings.
This is a complete different kind of art because we are not used to see art that is not in a painting, sculpture, music, buildings, writtings, etc. This is more like a whole place, where you can give it the meaning that you want.
Maybe a social motive could be the necesity to express the feelings about the fallen ones. And the culture motive can be the new technology used to create the ilussion. When someone start with someone, another person can get inspired by it and create something better.

  6. In my opinion whoever that don´t appreciate the Veteran`s Flame as an extraordinary piece of art is because that person really ignores the real meaning of art.

First I saw the video and I was so excited that I had to investigated more about the Veteran`s Flame.

In this case, the purpose of the installation is to show up the remaining sensations of the dead soldiers.

The physical elements that the author uses in this case are based in the context of the place, I mean the climate, the wetness, the darkness and other things that together form or create like an special sanctuary that contains found emotions.

This piece of art is just unusual and completely different in comparison with other pieces of art like paintings or sculptures and stuff like that. This kind of art is made just by a reflector and it is surprising the amount of sensations that it causes, so definitely I consider "The Veteran`s Flame" as an awesome piece of art.

    Hope you like....

  7. ...My eyes have seen so many things: paintings, photographs, sculptures, prints, truly wonderful works that are full of expression and feelings that tell us (with the image) more than many people say with their mouths. But I had never seen before anything as beautiful as this (seriously).

Knowing that the flame was reflected by a projector, made me jump from my chair and knocked down the things I had on my desk, I really thought it was real.

When the video was playing, I felt something very strange in my stomach and my hearth, it were like voices ... It seemed that a battle was trapped in my body and they could not leave; it was something funereal ... but I think that it was the intention of the creator, mention the suffering caused by wars and the anguish that families feel when a loved one is going to struggle. (And that he could get on me).

It is amazing how something simple (in this case the flame projected) can become in something great and moves inside people, we are aware or not ... I've never seen anything like that =D

  8. This video was very interesting, it made me feel something really deep, and when I saw it I understood the real value of the people that is around me. I would feel very lonely if they were gone. That is the principal purpose of the Veteran´s flame: FILL AN EMPTY SPACE AND DECREASE DISTANCE BETWEEN US.

The purpose of this installation is to decrease distance between us, between the people, it is used to represent death, to feel closer to the people that is not here. When I saw this installation I felt in peace, it made me feel that I am not alone.

To make this flame is used a projector, to reflect a candle´s flame on a wall, in the emptiest place of the house. I think that we can define this as art because it was made by human and it made me feel a lot of emotions. It is used in the places were the men go to the war and stay far from home a lot of time.

This make you feel accompanied and in peace in your soul and your heart. The sounds, the light, all these things make you be happy.

I think this installation has a social motive, because with this installation you can change an empty place to a new accompanied place. I am not sure if it has a cultural motive, but I think it is a very good way to express your feelings.

I want to invite you to appreciate the really important things in your life… ENJOY EVERY DAY!

  9. I believe that these persons who created this are very intelligent, they created a machine that makes believe that it is a flame, for my this if it is an example of art for the materialst, that to do to come to something that ultimately is alone. in general to all the persons were calling attention.

  10. At the beginning of the video I thought that I was only a simple flame or an illusion, but when I saw the entire video I was in shock, I can’t believe that the flame was created by a projector.
Before I investigate more about the veterans flame I thought that the purpose of this installation was to give for all the families of the soldiers that died a place where they can pray to their relatives, but when I read a few pages about this flame I found that the flame was created to give peace for all the world.
The physicals elements that this project used were obviously the projector, the room and I don’t know if I’m ok but, I think that the faith of the people is other physical element that this project used.
In my opinion we can define this as art because besides is not a real flame it cause me an emotion that I can describe, it’s like happiness but at the same time like sadness, and in the class we define art as anything that is made by humans and cause in you an emotion, so if someone think that this isn’t art I really think that they are in a mistake.
The society make us like a prototype of art, they always tell us that art is something like images and things like that, but this is really different even thought it isn’t an image.
I guess this art has a social motive because they created to make the people reason that we need to be in peace, and obviously with this it involve the cultural motive.

  11. The purpose of this installation is basically in memorial of those who died in the warfare in Irak and Afganistan, and also to change a little bit in the overused concepto of carving a silent figure that's frequently used to remember the fallen.
Many features of this piece of art are very psychological, mainly because of the flame that generally is related to the death in battle. Also the ubication of the veteran's flame can be very symboical and so the memories of the survivors being played with the projection. I think it creates a very obscure atmosphere that can easily create the feelings of the veterans.
About it beeing art, well, it is actually a very deep piece of art. Mabye it would be difficult for me to understand the prespective of the author about his work without the interview up there, but it would definitely inspire some feelings on me.
The veteran's flame is kind of different from the art we generally know, but it's much more different in the way it's seen, I mean, the whole room is a piece of art.
In a social way, the motive of the artwork of Krzysztof is to reduce the distance between thoose who has lived war and thowe who had't, so the first ones can start telling their experiences and the second ones learn how to understand them.
In a cultural way, the motive is to change from the sculptures to something that connects you more to the veterans than to the artist.
Personally, the whole concept of the veteran's flame made me reflex about the role of art, not only as a way to cause various emotions, but also as a way to remember and make a correct interpretation of history and much more things.

  13. I think that this is an interesting propose of art.

I know that this is going to hear repeated, but all of us though at the beginning of the video that the flame was real, but surprise it was a projector hidden behind the cameras.

I feel that the only purpose of this is remember us that in every moment war will come, I'm not saying that war is the answer, but the flame symbolize the hope for world peace, that is all we need.

The physical elements are a good projector, lights and the sense of view. We can define this as art by the only thing that define art, it makes us feel that we have hope, and hope is a feeling. I would consider this as modern art, I mean that isn't the conventional that is painted in paper, the social sense is make us concienticius of what is happened in our mother earth.

And the cultural sense is the innovation of this artist.

  14. I thing this is so interesting, well is so creative to do some like this for the entreteinment of the people, is not a comun art, I thing this is art for me becuase they use the imagination and creativity, and not only with the function to win a title, i think they make this to create, to make something new and diferent.
Is so simple but the video have something, the words that the man said well they make me fell like with the wishes to go and see that, it is fantastic!

  15. Well, it could sound as the same of my classmates, but i really thought that it was the biggest flame all over the world, also when i saw the first image on the video i was like expecting something great and humongus.

Then when i saw the projector figuring out the flame i talk to myself and said " is this the real flame" (im not kidding about the images because i couldnt hear the video) but getting deeper i thought that my predictions about the biggest flame, were truth, because the monument could not be the biggest one, but the feelings that makes you feel and the purpose that it has for the citizens is the best expression of real art.

Continiung with the questions of the blog, i think that the physical elements are: the proyector, the lights and the room were it tooks places, because it makes the form of a frame in which the flame grows.

This is like a memorial of all the soldiers who have dead in the wars, like for example in the vietnam war, and i think that wherever they are they can appreciate the memorial that the government and their families had made to them, giving thanks for the glad to meet them.

(This is real art)... and in other opinion i think that this is a way to share with the families and join together for an own thing.

  17. It is kind of mysterius the title because i have another idea in my mind about the veterans flame, i thought it was a rock monument to the veterans (are the solidiers death or old soldiers).

Well i think that the flame symbolizes, the deat soldiers and it is like a sign of peace all over the world and like an attention to express the feelings of the nation, to their veterans.

The physical elements are the lights, the proyector and it could be also the room were the flame is, because it need sometime to complete it like a real piece of art.

Finally, i think that the best purpose of this art, is to sensitize all the people, and act with courage like the brave soldiers who gave the live for their countrie.

This is modern art and it is differente, cause the projector.

  18. first, i think that the propose of this instalation is that the people remember the heroes of the war, this is posible because they put a projector that creates a flame and also narrates some regards that happent at the moment.
i think that this is a kind of art because when you are listening the the narrative and seeing to the flame, it makes you feel something like sadness or nostalgia, so i considerate it art because it makes you feel something out of your senses.
about the social and cultural motive, i think is that the people get more interest about their national heroes and to promove the patriotism.
but this is only my opinion

  19. "One of the main reasons that it is so easy to march men off to war," says Ernest Becker, is that "each of them feels sorry for the man next to him who will die." Annie Dillard

I still don't understand whitch is the instalation the sculpture of an eagle that first appears on the video or the room with the flame. But I'm going to focus on the flame because it's the name of the post.

I think that the porpuse of the instalation goes farther than just remember the ones who have died in war (whitch I believe its a very human proposal), but make conscience on people that war is not the solution for problems. The exhibition also wants to make you feel what did the soldiers feel when they kill or watch the enemies killing their "warmates".

I actually realized that the flame was proyected because it starts moving, and it's inside a room where no much air could come in. So the proyector and the room are the physical objects. But they're nothing without all the explanation we heard on the video, the music and soldiers stories.

And that is what makes the whole exhibition a piece of art. If i just go there and see the flame on the room i could consider it art but nothing compared with the entire explanation of what it represents. This it's art because it purpose is to transmit directly the feeling of dead. And as i said before, make you think that war is not the answer for problems.

I find it kind of similar to a documentary or a movie. Whitch could also be considerer as art. But I think that what makes the diference is the room where the "movie" is proyected and also because there is only one moving image furthermore there are no seats.

I think that the social motive os all the persons who have had at least one relative who went to war, and for all those people who think, as me, that war is the wrongest thing ever!

And the cultural motive is the ideology and the way to represent this feelings.

    That is art!... isn't it?

  20. Come back

The purpose of this installation is remembering the veterans of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, some physical elements is a video projector and a quietly space to create a meditative sense, like a video art mixed with urban spaces. The social motive is incorporating the veterans of the social life and the cultural motive is produce again through art a time integrator.

  21. I think that the purpose of this art, is first of all, give to the veterans of the war some respect and make that the people think about all the thinks that they have already done for the culture, and now what they can do for all of us or just for theirself, the physical elements i think that is for make the people get focus in the art and make that it looks bigger that it is, for me this is a great piece of art because is very insteresting and wonderful.

  22. I want to response to Quique comment.

I definitely agree with you. I just would like to add to your physical objects the element of sound (I'm referring to the soldier voices) whitch I find like the most interesting thing of the exhibition.

I also did like the fact that you mention that wherever the dead soldiers are, they can appreciate the installation built just for them. I really think in the same way. Moreover I believe that in some way the souls (or whatever you call them)of the dead soldiers can help us to fill on the blanks or make the "concretion" of the work of art. Like if the souls could stand next to you at the moment that you are on the room watching the flame hearing their voices...
    But that so philosophical.

    Anyway... it Is art!
